How to identify the right career for you

While some people know what they want to do as a career from a young age, others take a while to find their calling. However, it’s never too late to identify your dream career and then take steps to achieve it. Here are three top tips on how you can find the right career for you.

Do what you love
You’ve heard the saying: “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” Why not put it to the test? No matter what your passions is, be it sport, fashion, film or something more niche, you should explore the various career options in that industry and the steps you need to take to get there. If you need to gain a qualification, you’ll have lots more fun studying something you’re passionate about, knowing you’re on the way to achieving your dream!

Do what you’re good at
If you don’t have a particular passion you want to follow, then why not make use of what you’re already good at? Utilising and building on your existing skills is a great way of finding the right career for you – and you know you’ll be good at it! Whether you’re a whizz at writing, a technology ace or you have excellent people skills, recognise your abilities and research some different career paths where you can put them to good use.

Speak to a careers adviser
Careers advisers can help you identify the right career for you by providing expert advice and guidance about your education and vocation. They’ll be able to tell you what further qualifications you may need (if any), make suggestions based on your goals and skillset and even help you prepare job applications. At UCEN Manchester, the careers advisors on our Future U Student Support team are all highly qualified, Matrix-accredited professionals, which means they can help you find your perfect career and plan how to get there.
