Top Tips for Time Management
There will be periods in your journey through higher education when your workload will be very heavy, but with the right approach you can stop yourself from becoming overwhelmed.
To help we’ve pulled together some useful tips to help you manage your time and prioritise your work as you prepare for higher education.
Be organised
When balancing coursework, readings, assessments and more alongside your personal life, it’s vital that you give yourself realistic time scales to complete tasks in.
Creating a timetable is the most useful way to organise your time, especially one that suits your lifestyle and learning preferences.
While a timetable will help you organise, only you can complete the work, so don’t procrastinate and approach your work with a positive mindset.
Plan ahead
Planning ahead as soon as possible can go a long way to helping manage your time. As soon as your given deadlines for coursework or dates of an assessment, work them into your personal timetable.
If your deadline is in a month, set a personal deadline of three weeks to give yourself time to proof-read and check your work. This will save you from the late night, last minute rush and it leaves leeway for the unexpected.
Prioritise
Prioritising is a key step in good time management. Try to separate your tasks into two categories; urgent and important. Focus on the urgent tasks first and once you’ve ticked them off your to-do list, move on to the important tasks.
Make time for you
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, make sure you leave some time for yourself.
Take some time to relax, recharge your batteries and look after your mental health so you are in the best mindset to approach your work when you need to.
