The best things to do in Manchester

Whatever you enjoy there is something for you in one of England’s largest and most vibrant cities.

Art galleries, football stadiums and theatres

If art is your thing, you’ll enjoy the collections and exhibitions at the Manchester Art Gallery, the Whitworth and The Lowry.

Manchester is a city that loves its football and is home to two of the biggest clubs in the world.  You can tour the grounds of Manchester United and Manchester City, and discover the history of the beautiful game at the National Football Museum.

Theatre fans are spoilt for choice with a selection of performances all year round at the Royal Exchange Theatre, The Lowry, Hope Mill Theatre and Palace Theatre Manchester

Connectivity

Manchester has good connections to many other cities such as Chester, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle, and York, and it’s easy to visit the incredible countryside for a day trip, with the Lake District and Peak District right on the city’s doorstep.

Food

Manchester is a diverse and inclusive city, and is home to the second-largest Chinatown in the UK and the Curry Mile, the largest concentration of South Asian restaurants outside the Indian subcontinent.

The warmth, delicacies and stories of Manchester’s Middle Eastern, Jamaican, Korean and Jewish communities (to name just a handful) are also not to be missed.

Leisure

On rainy days there’s the Manchester Climbing Centre and The Crystal Maze LIVE Experience, along with many more top attractions across the city centre.  Alternatively, if you fancy a bit of retail therapy, you’ll be blown away by what the Trafford Centre has to offer.

Manchester Pride

Manchester is one of the world’s leading gay-friendly cities and the city’s Gay Village is famous for its nightlife, community activities and events, the most popular being Manchester Pride.

Music

Catch everything from local talent in the city’s charming pubs and bars to the world’s greatest artists at the AO Arena.  The talented musicians that play Manchester’s iconic venues cover all genres so, there’s something for everyone regardless of your taste in music.

The great outdoors

For those who love outdoor activities, there is plenty of walking and cycling to be done in Greater Manchester, including around Hollingworth Lake, Heaton Park and Sale Water Park.
